Why it's different

PDF tools that don't need your files

Most online PDF sites upload every file to their servers, process it there and ask you to trust that it gets deleted. For contracts, payslips, medical letters and ID scans, that is a real privacy cost.

MakePDFFree does the work with your browser instead. Merging, splitting, compressing, signing, OCR and conversion to Word all run on your own computer or phone, which also means no waiting for uploads.

The only exception is Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF, which need a real office suite. Those files are sent over HTTPS, converted and deleted straight away, and each of those tools says so clearly.

FAQ

Questions about MakePDFFree

Are these PDF tools really free?

Yes. Every tool is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit. Hosting is paid for by clearly labelled sponsors, who never receive any data about you or your files.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

Almost every tool runs entirely in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. Only Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF need a server; those files are sent over HTTPS, converted and deleted immediately, without being logged or stored.

Do I need to install an app or create an account?

No. Open a tool in Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox and use it straight away. There is nothing to install and no account, email address or payment details are ever requested.

Does it work on iPhone, Android and Mac?

Yes. The tools work in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, including Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS and Android. Very large files work best on a computer because phones have less memory.

Is there a file size limit?

Most browser tools accept files up to 200 MB each; memory-heavy tools such as OCR, editing and image conversions accept up to 50 or 100 MB, and each tool shows its limit. Word, Excel and PowerPoint conversions accept up to 25 MB. There is no daily limit.

Can I use it with password-protected or damaged PDFs?

Yes. When a PDF is encrypted, the tool asks for its password and uses it only on your device. If a file will not open, Repair PDF rebuilds its internal structure, which fixes many truncated or corrupted downloads.

Will the output have a watermark or lower quality?

No watermark is ever added. Tools like merge, split, rotate and protect copy your pages as they are, so text stays sharp and selectable. Only compression changes quality, and only as much as the level you pick.

Is it safe to use for confidential documents?

Browser tools are a good fit for contracts, payslips and ID scans because the document is processed in memory on your own device and is never sent anywhere. You can confirm this in your browser's developer tools: the Network tab shows no upload of your file.
