Terms of Service

These terms apply to your use of makepdffree.com (“the site”). By using the site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. The service

MakePDFFree provides free online PDF tools. No account is required and no fee is charged. Most tools run entirely in your browser; the Word, Excel and PowerPoint to PDF tools send the selected file to a conversion service as described in the Privacy Policy. Features may be added, changed or removed at any time without notice.

2. Your documents

You keep all rights to the files you process. MakePDFFree claims no ownership of, or licence to, your documents or the files the tools produce. You are responsible for keeping your own copies; the site does not store files, so a result that is not downloaded cannot be recovered.

3. Acceptable use

You agree to use the site lawfully and only with documents you are entitled to handle. In particular:

• Only unlock, decrypt or remove restrictions from PDFs that you own or have the right to modify, and only with a password you are authorised to use.
• Only redact, edit, sign or fill documents you have the right to change. Do not use the tools to forge signatures, alter official records or create misleading documents.
• Do not use the tools to infringe copyright or other intellectual property rights.
• Do not attempt to overload, probe, scrape or disrupt the site or the conversion service, or bypass its abuse protection.

4. Checking your results

PDF files vary enormously, and automated processing can produce unexpected results, for example OCR errors, layout differences after conversion, or content that looks redacted in one viewer but not another if a file is unusual. Always review the output before relying on it, especially before sending a redacted, signed or legally significant document.

5. No warranty

The site is provided free of charge, “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability or non-infringement. There is no guarantee that the site will be uninterrupted or error-free.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MakePDFFree is not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for loss of data, documents, profits or business, arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

7. Sponsors and third-party links

The site is funded by sponsors whose products appear in placements labelled “Sponsor” or “Sponsored guide”. Sponsors are independent third parties. MakePDFFree does not operate their apps or services and is not responsible for their content, pricing, availability or privacy practices. Your use of a sponsor's product is governed by that sponsor's own terms.

8. Open-source software

The tools are built on open-source libraries, each used under its own licence. See Open-source licenses for the full list.

9. Changes

These terms may be updated from time to time; the date above shows the latest version. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms. Nothing in these terms affects mandatory consumer protection rights you have where you live.
